Peace and tranquility are the theme of every day on Cabbage Key, which brims with excellent food, friendly service, and abundant nature. This secluded hideaway off the coast of Fort Meyers is full of history, wildlife and unlimited picturesque views. But what they don’t have is cable TV or land line phone service. And you’ll want to bring along with you everything you’ll need, because they don’t have a general store either. Cabbage Key is totally void of commercialization.
Cabbage Key is home to a quaint restaurant and bar at the Cabbage Inn, which is popular among tourists and locals alike. Known to many as the “bar with all the money on the walls,” the bar is famous for all the dollar bills that previous customers have taped to the walls. The restaurant receives rave reviews for its wonderful food and service, and the drink specials are phenomenal. Said to be the inspiration behind Jimmy Buffet’s “Cheeseburger in Paradise” the island offers nothing but relaxation, great food and good times.
So, bring along that book you’ve wanted to read or that novel you’ve been meaning to finish writing. Explore the nature trails, go fishing or just hang out at the beach, do some painting by the water…whatever inspires you. There are no motorized vehicles on the island; the island is only accessible by boat.
